Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of the Gambit app and this website. By creating an account or using Gambit you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian’s permission to use the app and to buy a subscription.
Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity on your account. Give accurate information. You can delete your account any time in the app under Settings, then Delete Account.
What Gambit is, and is not
Gambit is a training tool. Moves and evaluations come from the Stockfish engine, and an AI language model writes explanations of them. Explanations are checked against the engine but can still be imperfect, unclear or incomplete. Gambit does not guarantee any improvement in your rating or results. Ranks such as “Grandmaster Aura” are names inside the app and are not official chess titles. Gambit is not affiliated with Chess.com, Lichess, FIDE or Apple.
Your content
You keep ownership of the games and other content you import. You give us a limited licence to store and process them to run the service for you, including sending relevant text to AI providers to generate explanations, as described in the Privacy Policy. Only import games you are allowed to use. Do not import content that is unlawful or that infringes others’ rights.
Acceptable use
- Do not misuse, reverse engineer or attack the service, or try to bypass usage limits or paywalls.
- Do not use automation to overload the service or to scrape it.
- Do not use Gambit to cheat in rated or tournament games where engine assistance is prohibited. You are responsible for following the rules of the platforms you play on.
Subscriptions and billing
Auto-renewal. Paid plans are auto-renewing subscriptions. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period at the price of the plan. You can manage or cancel subscriptions any time in Settings on your iPhone, under your name, then Subscriptions. Deleting your Gambit account does not cancel your subscription.
- Free trial. If a free trial is offered, any unused part of it is forfeited when you buy a subscription. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, it converts to a paid subscription.
- Prices and plans. Prices, allowances and trial lengths are shown in the app before you buy.
- Refunds. Purchases are processed by Apple, so refund requests go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Restore purchases. Use Settings, then Restore purchases, on a new device.
- Changes. If we change the price of an active subscription we will give notice as Apple requires and you can decline by cancelling.
Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue features. Free-tier and plan allowances may change over time. We will try to give notice of changes that significantly affect paid features.
Termination
You may stop using Gambit at any time. We may suspend or end access if you breach these terms or misuse the service.
Disclaimers and liability
Gambit is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including your statutory consumer rights.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction], and courts there have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer protections in your country.
Apple
These terms are between you and Gambit, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms as they relate to your use of the app on Apple devices and may enforce them against you.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Continuing to use Gambit after an update means you accept it. We will change the date above when we do.
